This is one of the richest parts of Italy as far as history and culture is concerned. One of the advantages to stay at the Poseidon in Positano is to be able to visit many attractions during the day with the possibility to go back to the peaceful “home”.

Positano has, with no doubt, a lot of history to tell, since Homer times, with those three little islands that the great poet imagined inhabited by the three sirens that bewitched the seamen with their enchanting melodies. Positano’s history precedes the Roman period. It became important during the hey day of the Amalfi Republic and then became an important commercial centre in the XVIII Century.
Starting in the XIX Century, Positano discovered its vocation as a tourist destination and it was included in the European “Grand Tour”, then it became a favourite destination for the first Scandinavian tourists in XX Century, later on a shelter for victims of persecutions during the 30s, then a rest camp for the British army officers after the allied landing in Italy.

And finally today it is a little unconventional place, a little out of the standards, for travellers who love beauty.
Its little climbing streets have been walked by John Steinbeck, Alberto Moravia, Pablo Picasso and Dino Buzzati, in a funny microcosm that still today combines snobbism and simplicity, art and natural beauties which make Positano a most desired destination for travellers from all over the world.
