WHERE WE ARE

POSITANO

“Positano is a very astonishing place. Positano bites deep. It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone”.
John Steinbeck (1953)

The Hotel Poseidon enjoys a prime location in the middle-upper part of the village of Positano: thanks to this, the Poseidon offers breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast and the Mediterranean Sea, still remaining away from the Summer chaos.

However, its strategic position (on the one-way road inside the village) makes it really easy to reach the shopping area and the pedestrian way that leads to the beaches.

The history of Positano precedes the Roman period. It became a significant port during the Amalfi Republic and during the XIX Century it discovered its vocation as a tourist destination; it was, in fact, included in the European “Grand Tour”. In the XX Century, Positano became a favourite destination of the first Scandinavian tourists, then a shelter for the victims of persecutions during the 30s, and finally a rest camp for the British Army officers when the allied landed in Italy.

Today, Positano is a little unconventional place, for travellers who seek beauty.

Its little climbing streets have been walked by John Steinbeck, Alberto Moravia, Pablo Picasso and Dino Buzzati, in a funny microcosm that still today combines snobbism and simplicity, art and natural beauties and make Positano one of the most desired destinations for travellers from all over the world.

The Southern regions of Italy are amongst of the richest parts of Europe as far as history and culture are concerned.

One of the advantages to stay at the Hotel Poseidon in Positano is to be able to visit many attractions and important UNESCO sites during the day and then return “home”, to the Hotel, to splurge into the luxury of a comfortable, familiar and cheerful environment.
